To be an artist is to be so moved by your imagination, so overwhelmed by the visions that appear in your mind, that you must create something that expresses those ideas, thoughts, or emotions. As an artist, many of the pieces I come to create start off as a blur of concepts, colors, and techniques in my brain. I begin to sort out the different areas of the composition, the focal points, color scheme, the message I wish to denote to my audience. As necessary as it is to have a concept about an artwork, you must allow yourself to listen to your artistic conscience and simply create. To be a true artist, you must let go of controlling the process with your mind and let the art steer you in the direction that it needs to go.
Beginnings and Turning Points:
I was first introduced to art at a young age by my older brother. He was, and will always be one of my biggest inspirations as an artist. I found his pen sketches of superheroes and video game characters fascinating, so I picked up a pen and began to draw whatever came to mind. I would spend hours filling up pages of computer paper with drawings of princesses, fashion models, and animals. I would get lost in the world that I had drawn on the page, truly never wanting to escape the reality that I had brought to life through my compositions. I began to realize even at that young age that art was my escape, something that loved and would never be able to live without.
My Work:
The art that I chose to include in my portfolio demonstrates my love for detailed line work, color, and I would say, the whimsical. I chose these pieces to pay homage to the little girl who started out drawing with just a standard gel pen, the subject matter reflecting some of the things I used to draw when I was younger like fashion models and princess-types. I also chose some of these pieces to showcase myself stepping out of my comfort zone into the abstract or even the more graphic and wild. When an audience sees my work I want them to feel my love for the arts through the vibrancy and complexity of my pieces. I want them to understand that each piece I create holds a piece of myself within it. My art is just an extension of who I am as a person. When you see my art, you see me.
